My Professional Background

I have been a successful small business owner for several decades.  This experience has proved invaluable to understanding my clients and helping them navigate their career and business issues.  On a different note, I grew up with three siblings which has grounded me in understanding family dynamics.

I started my journey to becoming a therapist in 1995 by attending personal growth seminars with two different organizations.  I didn’t just “dip my toes in the water.”  I loved the experience so much that “I threw my whole body in the water”.  I began working as a staff member for many of these seminars and discovered an unquenchable thirst for this kind of work. Ultimately, I pursued this second career with a genuine deep seated passion.

I earned a Master’s degree in counseling from National Louis University in 2014, and I am now an LCPC (Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor).

I did my counseling internship at Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health, and continued working there while preparing and then obtaining my counseling license. While at Alexian Brothers, I was a therapist to adult individuals in the outpatient counseling department, and also led a bi-weekly anxiety group. Additionally, I was a member of their Partial Hospitalization Program that consisted of forty-five one-hour classes presented over a three-week period. I effectively taught over twenty of these classes with a wide range of topics on improving and managing mental health.

From 2015 to 2021, I worked at Urban Balance Counseling, a private counseling agency, providing adult clients with individual and couples counseling.  Effective January of 2022, I formed my own counseling practice, continuing to see adults for individual and couples counseling.
